Portrait etching of James Branch Cabell (see image above), protected by an unprinted glassine cover sheet on copies nos. 2 & 4, no cover sheet on no. 7.

Letter:

Copy No. 7 (only) includes a bound in TLS from Mr. Cabell to Mr. Wall, dated May 13, 1921, agreeing to sit for an etching portrait. Presumably this is the same etching portrait used as the frontispiece.

Dust jacket:

Not seen. At least some of the regular edition of 100 copies were issued in dust jacket.

Notes:

We don't know how many different bindings Wall used for this book. In addition to the four shown here, we have seen reports of one copy (no. 51) in ¾ brown cloth over tan boards, one copy (no. 6) in orange paper boards, and one copy (no. 8) in maroon cloth with a yellow paper center panel. We would love to see other copies.
